Yellowstone National Park has opened the new Yellowstone River Bridge to the public. Located at the junction of the Northeast Entrance Road and the Grand Loop Road near Tower Junction, the new steel girder bridge replaces the old, 62-year- old one that was becoming structurally deficient.
The new bridge spans about 1,285 feet roughly 175 feet above the river and carries two lanes of traffic, including a pedestrian walkway. The project was funded by the Great American Outdoors Act. The location’s hydrothermal activity required specialized construction methods, including sulfate-resistant cement and thermal monitoring during concrete curing, according to a report by the Federal Highway Administration.
While open, work will continue on overlooks and pullouts, removal of the old bridge and ecological restoration of the Lost Creek drainage. The full project is expected to wrap up in 2026.
