WAVE-ing to the future of public transit

By Megan Paulson Explore Big Sky Staff Writer

SALT LAKE CITY – Wireless Advanced Vehicle Electrification – while the name is a little tricky to say at first, Outlaw Partners has helped this innovative tech company with a number of projects over the last year. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a commercial launch of its state-of-the-art wireless technology both in Salt Lake City, Utah on Oct. 29, and at a California Transit Authority tradeshow in Monterey, Calif, Nov. 12-14.

WAVE, based out of Salt Lake City, officially commenced commercial deployment of a 50-kilowatt wirelessly powered electric bus serving a light rail TRAX station in Salt Lake City. The ceremony at the University of Utah campus included notable speakers from the Utah Transit Authority, State of Utah House of Representatives as well as Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams, among others. WAVE works closely with the Federal Transit Administration and has additional projects in Texas and California, which include deploying an electric old-fashioned-style trolley along Monterey’s waterfront.

As WAVE’s marketing partner, Outlaw has helped establish a consistent branding platform – designing everything from information cards, brochures, and booth graphics, to programming email campaigns, coordinating event logistics, developing marketing content, managing PR efforts with local and national media, and producing event videos.

“The marketing partnership with WAVE is both exciting and rewarding,” said Outlaw Partners Graphic Designer Taylor-Ann Smith. “It’s fun to work with a company that’s not only benefitting their community, but also participating in the global effort to reduce greenhouse emissions.”

Founded in 2011, WAVE is the leading provider of en-route, wireless, power-charging solutions that overcome traditional battery limitations in electric vehicles. The company delivers wireless power to these vehicles with electrical infrastructure embedded in the roadway and vehicle-mounted receiver plates.

WAVE’s Wireless Power Transfer technology is created through magnetic fields that move power from underneath the roadway to the vehicle – without wires or cables – and is the most powerful and efficient single-pad wireless charging system deployed by a U.S. company for public transit. WAVE provides a full-service, turnkey solution for transit agencies that includes the electric bus, WAVE charging system, service-level agreements, and ongoing systems maintenance.
