On June 15 at 12:58 a.m., Gallatin County Dispatch 911 received a report that a pair of mountain bikers were lost in the area of Brackett Creek Road located on the east side of the Bridger Range, and were suffering from heat exhaustion.

A press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies and Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue quickly deployed volunteers in a side-by-side ATV. The Valley Section volunteers drove up Brackett Creek Road and began the search.

When the cyclists were found self-extracting on foot, they were given medical evaluations which found both bikers had heat exhaustion. GCSSAR escorted the bikers back to the trailhead.

Sheriff Dan Springer reminded recreationists to prepare for the weather by packing enough food and water.

“On top of the heat, when you are active at higher altitudes, your breathing rate increases and more water than usual is lost due to breathing, so it is important to have plenty of extra water,” Springer stated in the release.
