BIG SKY – The Warren Miller Performing Arts Center is hosting the inaugural Twin Sky Summer Dance Intensive for two weeks this month in Big Sky. As part of WMPAC’s Summer Residency program, the James Sewell Ballet has taken up shop from July 7-19 at the performing arts center to educate advanced dancers from around the Northwest and to create new artistic work with a professional resident company.
An artist’s think tank and workspace, the Twin Sky Summer Dance Intensive brings professional dancers and students from around the country to move gracefully in Big Sky’s beautiful surroundings. James Sewell, who has choreographed more than 70 ballets worldwide has come on as the program’s artistic director, and has embraced Big Sky as the prime location for an artist-athlete training program.
“The room for personal and technical growth as a dancer here is truly remarkable and inspiring,” said Twin Sky participant Chris Hannon, who has been performing all over the country as a professional dancer for more than 25 years. “It’s an amazing opportunity for kids to gain exposure to professionals within the dance industry, and the intimacy and diversity of styles available with the Twin Sky program is a true rarity.”
The James Sewell Ballet opened WMPAC’s debut season last December with a stunning program that kicked off a winter series featuring performing artists from around the country and world.
On Saturday, July 19 at 7 p.m., the resident Twin Sky dance company will present a free public performance of the new work at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center.
