Evidence suggests threats connected to Gay Pride Week events

A series of bomb threats in Bozeman last week, May 3-5, prompted the Bozeman City Commission, Bozeman City Manager and Bozeman Police Department to release a joint statement on Monday.

Bomb threats on Friday evening, May 3, shut down separate locations along Bozeman’s East Main Street and West Kagy Boulevard, as reported Friday by Bozeman Daily Chronicle.

On Saturday and Sunday, police investigated two more bomb threats within Bozeman City limits in addition to the aforementioned threats.

“These threats were similar to two bomb threats received on May 3 and mirror incidents that have been reported nationwide,” according to the official statement on May 6.

The statement added that the investigation is ongoing in consultation with federal law enforcement partners, and findings suggest that the threats lack credibility. Bozeman Police have determined that none of the threats pose any immediate danger to the public.

“As a city, we remain vigilant and take these threats of violence seriously,” the letter stated. “The businesses and individuals targeted had connections to our upcoming Pride events and tactics like these have frequently been used to try to dissuade people from participating.”

The statement added that hate and threats of violence are not welcome in Bozeman, and that officials will take steps to ensure Pride Week events are safe and welcoming for everyone, especially the LGBTQ+ community.

“We remain dedicated to being a welcoming community for all, and as always, we urge anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity to immediately report incidents to the police.”
