The Bozeman Schools Foundation is hosting its 7th annual Pack the Sack campaign, a two-week fundraising effort taking place at all eight Bozeman School District 7 elementary schools in partnership with the Human Resource Development Council. The student-focused campaign raises money for HRDC’s KidsPack program, which provides weekend food to students who rely on school meals during the week. Funds raised help supply kid-friendly food bags to more than 700 students at 32 schools across Gallatin, Madison and Jefferson counties.
“All eight of our elementary schools participate in Pack the Sack because it aligns so closely with what we hope to teach our students,” Jenn Lammers, Bozeman Schools Foundation executive director said in a Jan. 19 press release from the district. “Kids learn that hunger can affect classmates just like them – and that even small actions, taken together, can make a real difference. They walk away understanding empathy, generosity, and that they are capable of being part of the solution.”Pack the Sack highlights ongoing food insecurity, where an estimated one in six Montana children experiences hunger, according to the release. Rising food costs have increased the cost of providing weekend meals, with each KidsPack now costing nearly $8 per child per weekend. Donations supporting the campaign directly benefit HRDC’s KidsPack program and can be made through the Bozeman Schools Foundation.
